Surly Long Haul Trucker ready to truck on in to work.
It's nice to be able to take anything you think you might need with you while commuting to work by bicycle. My Surly Long Haul Trucker is equipped to do just that. The front and rear racks, as well as the whole bicycle, are designed to carry a heavy load. Sometimes it's a problem to secure what you would like to carry.
Used bicycle inner tubes can be given a second life by using them to strap cargo to your bike rack. In many instances inner tubes work much better than bungee cords. Having the right length bungee cord is seldom the case. Inner tubes are stretchy and don't scratch your bike. Once tied tightly they hold well. Check with your local bike shop if you don't have any inner tubes lying around. Bike shops change lots of inner tubes and are usually glad to give you a few used ones if you just ask.
There are many other great uses for inner tubes. One use is securing the front wheel of your bike so that it will not swing around when hauling your bike on a car rack.

My Surly Long Haul Trucker is ready for the commute to work. A used inner tube is securing a 12 pack of Seltzer Water to the rear rack. |

After work I stopped to buy a bag of dog food.
