The Price Of Gold by Marty Nothstein & Ian Dille Hardcover, 256 pages Published June 2012 by Rodale Press
The Price of Gold is the story of Marty Nothstein's quest to win a gold medal in the Olympics. The book details Marty's journey from watching the 1976 Olympics on television and declaring at the age of 5 "I'm going to win the Olympics someday" all the way to his winning a gold medal in the Matched Sprint during the 2000 Olympics.
Nothstein won a silver medal while competing in the Match Sprint at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. The race was extremely close. Nothstein said "I didn't come here to win silver". Frustrated by the close margin of victory, he dedicated himself to winning a gold medal at the next Olympics.
From 1996 to 2000 Marty concentrated solely on training to win a gold medal. The book describes the unbelievably hard workouts and methods he used to accomplish his goal.
You will enjoy learning about different aspects of the rough sport of bicycle track racing while reading this book. The accounts of Nothstein's experiences of racing a tandem bicycle on the track where of particular interest to me.
At present time Marty Nothstein is the executive director of the Valley Preferred Cycling Center.
