Riders during the on track portion of the certification process.

In order to be ride or race on the velodrome you must become certified. This process involves 4 sessions. The first session is a classroom section of approximately 2 hours to learn the markings of the track and how to ride safely on the track. The other three sessions are actually riding on the track. I went down to the track on this past Monday evening for the classroom session. The whole set up is very impressive.

In this photo you can see part of the warm up track inside the velodrome.

It's hard to see in this photo, but to enter the velodrome you must go through a tunnel that comes up into the center of the track.

This track side building has  an elevator in it that goes up to the second floor and also down to the tunnel used to enter the velodrome. It has restrooms and a garage area that houses the 30 rental bikes. In the second floor glassed in room is were the classroom session of the certification process is held.
